National Fire Service Week (April 14–20)
On April 17, 2026, our school observed Fire Safety Week with a series of initiatives designed to combine creative awareness with practical emergency response training. The day featured an artistic competition followed by an intensive field demonstration led by the State Disaster Response and Fire Service Department Zone-1 Visakhapatnam.
Part I: Creative Awareness (Auditorium)
The day began with an inter-class Painting Competition held in the school auditorium. Under the professional guidance and supervision of our Art Teachers, students translated fire safety concepts into powerful visual messages.
The competition highlighted the students' understanding of fire prevention and the bravery of first responders. After a rigorous judging process based on creativity and thematic clarity, the top three contributors were recognized for their research and persuasive art skill:
1st Prize: HANVITHA HARINI PALIKALA – 7E
2nd Prize: MOVISHA BODDEDA – 7E
3rd Prize: ABHI RAM VASUPALLI -5F
2. Essay Writing Competition (Senior Category: Classes 8, 9, and 10)
Senior students delved into the technical and behavioral aspects of disaster management through an essay competition focused on "School Safety." The participants provided insightful perspectives on infrastructure safety, the role of fire-fighting technology, and the importance of regular drills.
The top three contributors were recognized for their research and persuasive writing:
1st Prize: NAGA SAI SHASHANK IMANDI - 10C
2nd Prize: LANKALAPALLI DHRUVIKA AARYANA - 8C
3rd Prize: ARNESH MOHAPATRO - 9A
Part II: Practical Training & Mock Drill (School Ground) for classes 8,9 &10
The focus then shifted to the school ground for a Live Mock Drill conducted by the by the State Disaster Response and Fire Service Department Zone-1 Visakhapatnam. This segment was dedicated to practical life-saving techniques and real-time evacuation protocols.
Fire officials provided a technical briefing on the nature of fire and the specific chemicals used to combat different hazards. A hands-on training session led by the Fire & Safety Department equipped students with practical emergency response skills. The participants gained valuable knowledge about the different classes of fire (A, B, C, and D) and learned the appropriate methods and extinguishing agents required to tackle each type safely and effectively. The session proved to be highly educational, engaging, and impactful, enhancing students' awareness of fire safety and emergency preparedness.
Part III: The R.A.C.E. Protocol & Practical Drill
On the school ground, the Fire Department conducted a live mock drill. A central part of the training was the R.A.C.E. Drill, a simple four-step protocol for anyone who discovers a fire:
R – Rescue: Immediately move anyone in the direct vicinity of the fire to a safe area.
A – Alarm: Pull the fire alarm and call the emergency services or school office.
C – Confine: Close doors and windows as you leave to prevent the spread of smoke and flame.
E – Extinguish/Evacuate: Extinguish the fire if it is small and safe to do so; otherwise, evacuate immediately. Rescue Measures & Carrying Methods.
A significant portion of the drill was dedicated to rescue operations. Fire officials explained that rescue is not just about speed, but about the safety of both the victim and the rescuer. They demonstrated several manual carry methods used to move injured or unconscious individuals during an emergency:
The Fireman’s Lift: Used for carrying a person over the shoulders, allowing the rescuer to have one hand free.
Two-Person Seat Carry: Demonstrated for transporting victims who are conscious but unable to walk.
Drag Techniques: Explained for situations where smoke levels are high, requiring rescuers to stay low to the ground while moving a victim.
Fire Suppression & Evacuation
P.A.S.S. Technique: Students observed the correct application of fire extinguishers on controlled blazes.
Conclusion:
The day’s events provided a holistic educational experience. By moving from the creative reflections in the auditorium to the high-stakes rescue demonstrations on the ground, students gained both the empathy to respect fire hazards and the technical skills to survive them. We extend our gratitude to the Fire Department and the Art faculty for their invaluable contributions to school safety.
