Educational Trip Class 8


Introduction:

The educational visit to Hindustan Shipyard Limited was organized as a part of our academic curriculum for students to explore and enhance the knowledge on construction of ships, its maintenance and the maritime sector as a whole.

 

Highlights: 

Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) is a shipyard located in Visakhapatnam on the East Coast  of India. It was founded in the year on 21st June 1941. The main services are ship building, ship repair, construction of submarines and refits as well as design and construction of sophisticated state-of-the-art offshore and onshore structures. It builds bulk carriers, offshore patrol vessels, survey vessels and repair the damaged vessels.

  Students of Class 8 got the opportunity to visit and experience a guided tour of the shipyard, and witness different stages of ship building and repairs. They were first taken to the ship museum where they were shown various equipment, machineries and different kinds of ship.

 The guide also explained to the students how launching, berthing, wielding and repair works of ships are done. The students were also given a tour of how submarines are built and repaired in Hindustan Shipyard Limited in collaboration with Russia.

                    

Insights Gained:

Students understood the various aspects of building and repairing of ships and submarines. They gained insights about the ancient and the modern methods of launching ships and about the maritime sector. Students have also observed many engineering students working as apprentice which has evoked an interest in them to persuade a career in the shipbuilding sector.

Conclusion:

The educational visit to Hindustan Shipyard Limited was an enriching experience that offered a unique perspective to the students on the construction and maintenance of ships and submarines. Students could gain information about the works that are undertaken by one of the nation’s premier shipbuilding organisation.
