SRI GURAJADA APPARAO JAYANTHI


The school celebrated 156th Jayanthi of Sri Gurajada Apparao  on 20th September. Gurajada Venkata Apparao was a noted Telugu playwright, dramatist, poet, social reformer and above all, a great humanist.

One of the pioneers of Indian theater, Gurajada Apparao’s dramas and plays focused on social issues, hypocrisy and social inequalities which were prevalent in the Indian society.

A special assembly was organized by the Telugu club ‘Saraswatha Parishath’. Children presented poems and a group of 55 students rendered the melodies Patriotic song, ‘Desamunu Preminchumanna’ which is considered to be his immortal masterpiece. A conversation showcasing his life and contribution as a poet and writer was also presented in the assembly. Sri Gurajada Apparao through his poems and plays wanted to bring to the forefront certain social issues relevant during the time such as child marriage, dowry system and other superstitious beliefs.
